Daniel Varney

Obituary

Daniel Varney, a well-known and respected citizen, died at his home, 111 Main street, South Glens Falls, at eleven o'clock yesterday morning after an illness of several weeks, aged sixty-eight years. The deceased was a son of Daniel and Anna Varney and one of a family of fifteen children. He was born in Luzerne in 1831 and lived in that ton until 1864, when he moved to Queensbury, taking up his residence in the western part of the town. He followed the vocation of a farmer for a number of years, and for a quarter of a century was foreman of the Hudson River Boom association. He was married to Miss Nancy Randall, of Luzerne. About five years ago Mr. Varney removed to South Glens Falls, and during his residence in that village he served three years as a member of the board of education and two years as a member of the board of trustees. He was a devout member of Friends' church of this village. Besides a widow, he is survived by two daughters and three sons - Fannie M. Varney, Augusta Varney, E. R. and Sellect Varney, of South Glens Falls, and Jacob M. Varney, of this village. Three sisters also survive - Mrs. Warren Hartman, of Kingsbury, Mrs. M. L. Newton, of South Glens Falls, and Mrs. W. P. Hartman, of Hudson. The funeral will be held from his late residence Monday afternoon at one o'clock. Rev. H. R. Keates, pastor of Friends' church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Bay street cemetery.
