BARLOW, Lydia
Herma Armstrong 20 Oct 1997Hi again, Does anyone have info. on a BARLOW family that came from NH to NY between 1790 and ca. 1810? Lydia BARLOW (b. 1790 NH d. 1866 Scioto Co. OH) married Ransom ODELL (b. 1780 NY d. 1856 Scioto Co. OH somewhere in NY ca. 1810-1814.)
They had a son Moses ODELL born in NY before moving on to OH. They arrived in Scioto Co. OH in 1815. There are several Ransom Odells in NY and I've been trying to pin down which one was my ggg grandfather. I decided to try locating the BARLOWs.
Suspected counties where the marriage might have occurred are what-was-then Washington County around the Town of Queensbury (present-day Warren Co.), Chenango County, and Renssalaer County. Wayne and Seneca Cos. are possibilities too. Herma Armstrong bz877@freenet.buffalo.edu or hrarmstrong@juno.com

John Bayle Tue Sep 02 1997I am interested in any information on the LaHaise and Lupien famillies in the Glens Falls area. Also very interested in information on origins and/or parents of Gustave LaHaise.

Debra Eddy Fri Apr 4, 1997Who were the parents of my 3rd great-grandmother, Hannah MOON (born 20 Aug 1799, Albany or Dutchess Co., NY - 17 May 1874, place unknown in NY)? Hannah is somehow connected to John MOON, whose estate in Warren Co., NY, her husband, Joseph B. LEAVENS, was executor of. Family records show that Hannah's parents were John Moon and Elizabeth Brown, however, she was much younger than his other children and John Moon's probate does not indicate she was his daughter. MELVILLE
Mike McCormick Wed, 12 Mar 97, revised Monday, 24 Mar 97I am seeking the burial site of a once famous actress known as ROSE MELVILLE who died in Lake George, New York on October 7 or 8, 1946. She was married to FRANK MINZEY, believed to be his real name but possibly a stage name, on June 12, 1910. Rose was born Rosa Smock on Jan. 30, 1873. Her brother-in-law wrote a play centered around an Appalachian hillbilly family, particularly a girl named "Sis Hopkins." Rose, who was a part of a touring theater stock company, took the role to New York and, by 1899, had made a hit out of the character. A new play was written especially for her and it sustained itself for over 20 years despite her efforts to shed that exclusive identity. She made one silent film with a different title but she still played Sis. Two movies were made -- a silent in 1919 starring Mabel Norman and a talkie in 1941 starrting Judy Canova -- from the role. It is my understanding that, when Rose retired in 1917 or 1918, the Minzeys moved to Lake George. I have learned that the property owned by actress ROSE MELVILLE was located on the east shore of Lake George and was named "Highwood."
Nice people at the public library advise that tours have been made of Highwood as recently as 1985. Frank Minzey died Nov. 12, 1949. Rose and Frank Minzey were cremated and ashes distributed at Buzzard Bay. Any information on the Minzeys or Highwood would be appreciated.
Did they have children?
Thank you

NORRIS
Will Dodge 9 Oct 1997I have been researching HARRIS, NORRIS, and DODGE surnames in the timeframe 1830-1930. My NORRIS lines are fairly complete, except from 1920 and on. I have problems with HARRIS and DODGE, in that I can find no records, other than census. Can you point me to other searchable resources? The families are connected to the city of Glens Falls, Warren County, NY. The NORRISES were big in shirt manufacturing in the city. Ellen HARRIS was wife to Taylor NORRIS. One of their children, Ephraetta Harris NORRIS, married Harry Stoddard DODGE abt 1885, and gave birth to my GFather, Willard LeRoy DODGE, in 1886. Unfortunately, Harry Stoddard DODGE apparently died between 1886 and 1900(unlisted in 1900 census), and my Grandfather died in his early thirties, and I have no handle on that side of the family. I am waiting for results of Vital Statistics searches. Is there a newspaper in Glens Falls that would have records from 1885-1900?
