Varney, Almon Clother

VARNEY, Almon Clother, architect; born, Luzerne, N.Y., Mar 28, 1849; son of Abner N. and Marian (Clother) Varney; educated in public schools of New York state; married, Saratoga, N.Y., Sept. 1, 1872, Lizzie C. Scidmore; 2 children: Eva J., A. Chester. Began study of architecture, 1876, while in office of Darius Norcross, Glens Falls, N.Y., also studied under E. M. Borden, of Boston; has practiced in Detroit since 1879; member firm of A. C. Varney and F. J. Winter since 1911. Republican. Congregationalist. Poor commissioner City of Detroit, 1895-1900. Member Detroit Board of Commerce. Mason (32°), Shiner. Club: Fellowcraft. Recreations: automobiling, fishing and boating. Office: 1221 Dime Savings Bank Bldg. Residence: 74 Warren Ave. E.
